Online discussions can be greatly beneficial to student learning. Online discussions need careful planning if they are to be successful, but as a precursor you might like to consider the advantages and disadvantages of online discussions.

Advantages :

1.     Students can participate from any place at the time of discussion.

2.     It activates the students to think in all angle and develop their ideas.

3.     Some students avoids face-to-face communication, it is always beneficial for them.

4.     It can save the timing of teachers as well as parents and students.

5.     Individual attention is possible.

6.     Students get more time to develop and express their ideas,

7.     Answers given by both teachers and students can be visible to all.

8.     It is one of the effective and efficient way of teaching and learning process.

Disadvantages :

1.     Some students may not express themselves due to some personal problems like poor writing skills,, some facial problems, etc.

2.     And due to this these students only agree with others.

3.     Needs to be moderated and monitored for inappropriate postings.

4.     Should have Technical knowledge.

5.     Accessing of all peripherals must be OK.
